Hormonal changes and PCOS

There are three times in a woman’s life when hair growth can become more of a problem.

  • Puberty

  • Pregnancy

  • Menopause

Many women have unwanted hair because of hormonal changes or a medical condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. These, as well as thyroid and adrenal conditions, can affect the body’s hair growth.

Pre-teen and Teens

The earliest age for treatment depends upon the motivation of the young person. Most electrologists want to ensure that the young person, not the parent, decides it is time for electrology treatments. Girls as young as 12 seek treatments to remove hair on their upper lip. Teens and preteens of both genders receive treatments to define separate eyebrows. Topical anesthetics can help reduce the sensitivity of electrolysis treatments. A tolerance for the treatments will also come with maturity.

Pregnancy

Electrolysis treatments can be performed safely during this time. Due to sensitivity, breasts and abdomens are not recommended for treatment in the 3rd trimester.

Always please check with your physician before starting treatment.
